Console problem coming out of sleep mode??

Postby netcbc » Wed Feb 10, 2010 4:00 pm

Hi my "console" which handles the tv channels/pvr etc, has issues coming out of sleep mode on HDMI. Whenever I turn off the TV/Console, it goes into sleep mode, eventually the solid blue signal on the front of the console starts to blink every 1 second... when I turn on the TV/Console, the blue signal continues to blink and does not go solid, what happens it flips the screen between 480p and 1080i... to correct this I have to do a soft reset each time by holding the power button??

Any thoughts?

I called bell tech several times, the latest time they said the "architect" of this whole thing is aware of it and it should be fixed on the next hardware upgrade. I've tried hard/soft restarts, upgrading the firmware, settings on the TV are correct.. etc...... I'm running the connection HDMI on my Sharp 60" 120hz

I have not seen this behaviour but do you think it may be possible to troubleshoot with another connection type like S-Video or Component? If that works ok then you know this has something to do with the HDMI port. It's probably good to troubleshoot on your own with known techniques. Also I would not believe everything Bell tells you regarding the "architect" of the system fixing this anytime soon. I know that I had a problem with component video connecting to my Samsung DLP TV. It would not connect no matter what and gave me no signal at all, but HDMI and SVideo worked fine (even with an HDMI->DVI Connector which is what my TV supports).

Maybe others have some input?

Bell guy came to do some wiring and I showed them the problem again, they change the connection to component and now there is no issues....

however how inferior is component to HDMI? I could really tell a big diff, but with component I did see some shadowing...

HDMI is digital and Component Video is analog -- so there is a difference in the quality. For many it may not be a big deal. I am sure they will say it has to do with your TV set, as they did in my situation. Have you tried any of the other HDMI inputs?

Hi yes tried all the inputs, Bell tech guy came over to help install another jack in a room and he seemed the most knowledgeable from everyone I talked to in person or on the phone, he did say that Bell is aware of the HDMI problem and that they will be trying to roll out a new console in May..... I guess that's all we can hope for, I would think they would get more complaints? I had HDMI was pretty standard by now

I think they'd get more complaints if the HDMI wasn't working in general but it seems that these are exceptions rather than the rule. The techs told me I would have to run on the S-Video output on one of my TVs since the component wouldn't work and that's how they left the install. I switched to HDMI after I got a DVI converter and it's been much clearer.

It's most likely that there are Revisions of the Motorola boxes that are popping out much like revisions to the BIOS on motherboards and this is probably what needs to be done. In this case these are hardware changes as well that will have to roll out and that will be an expensive proposition for Bell to work with since probably not everyone will need to get a new box, but most will ask for the latest and greatest.

If you want to get some more into the ins and out of this platform the uverseusers.com website has a terrific wikithat decribes the BES platform well -- it's very similar to what AT&T is using for the Uverse serve that's been out for several years now.
