STB Freezing and not coming back w

Postby arabinow » Sun Mar 07, 2010 4:34 pm

I am testing my stb in another room through cat 5 cable. I notice that after about 30 seconds the box freezes and does not come back until I change the channel. I have made sure Filter multicast is checked on my linksys router. Any other suggestions?

It's not key that i have the stb in this room just would be nice, otherwise I would call bell tech support.

Thank you

Have you tried powering down and resetting the CellPipe router? I wonder if it needs to reconfigure the STB now running over Cat5?

All the boxes have to be connected to the Alcatel router, unless your Linksys supports VLANs.

I'm pretty sure the linksys would work fine. The installers saw it and never mentioned it as being a problem.. I just never actually hooked up a box with cat 5.

I am thinking the cellpipe needs a restart but I didnt want to reboot and screw up anything else for the sake in trying this out.

I even setup my linksys router as a dmz in the alcatel.. it's probably just a simple solution.

Check this diagram for how others have set up another router -- your STBs must be connected to the Alcatel CellPipe modem and your machines can be connected to the separate router. See this thread response for more info on this type of setup.

Hi there,

It was my understanding that you want to ALLOW multicast, so please make sure your multicast filtering is disabled.

** Various routers handle this differently. Some "filter" multicast (DENY), and some "passthrough" multicast (ALLOW). Select whichever option applies to your device that ALLOWS multicast.
