After Six Months

Postby lkirkland » Wed Jan 13, 2010 9:42 pm

I have my IPTV installed for over six months. I read about it on RedFlagDeals. I was very skeptical, but six months later I am very impressed.

My house is near the Allen about a mile south of Lawrence.

The installation went very smooth as my house is prewired with Cat6 cabling. I have two Macs (Macbook and an iMac) a Windows laptop, Xbox360, AppleTV and an iPod touch all hooked up to an Airport Extreme and an old Cisco 2948 switch. I think it took about two hours.

I had Rogers for years but it seems like they were robbing me when I compared the pricing to Bell.

The two installers were very professional I think the head guy was named Brian.

I have an old Sony SD TV and a Toshiba HDTV. The Sony was connected at first to the PVR and the Toshiba to the smaller box. I told them to do it the other way round, but when they left I moved it.

At first I thought the picture was terrible. I read on other forums that it was better than Rogers because there was less compression....I didn't see it.

After a couple of days, my PVR (now connected to the Toshiba) kept rebooting on its own. I called tech support...got through right away....and they sent a tech over. I think his name was Brian also.

Boy was he great. He told me the power supplies for the two boxes are different and if you are going to move them around you have to move the power supplies too. I think the PVR has a higher amperage to power the hard drive.

He also adjusted my picture setting on my Toshiba. He suggested I may have played around to compensate for Rogers poor picture. Once he set it up...it was like I had a new TV. He was a computer whiz too. He was able to set up my wireless on the Apple router so I could have 802.11n speeds again. I found the modem Bell installs is very slow with wireless connections.

Once he left I have never had to call in for any tech problems. There were a couple of outages my daughters told me, but I wasn't home to experience them.

The only annoying thing, which is me trying to find fault, is they are adding channels without telling us. I find them while channel surfing----which is fun with that little box they call picture in picture (why don't all channels display that box?)

The TV is great. The PVR is fantastic. The Video on Demand choice sucks and I am embarrassed by the Pay per view titles. I used the portal once to set my PVR when I was out of town. It hasn't worked since. I understand AT&T has an iPhone app for that. Now that Bell has the iPhone will they have one too?

The last time I called them they said they were going commercial this year. I have my 50% off until the fall. If it's as good or better then, I am keeping it.

Wow, that's terrific. Any advice for any of the interruptions you've received? My service after less than a month has been much less reliable with stuttering and TV issues documented here.

I'm thinking the software is installed correctly but the hardware is defective.

According to me there is every thing right from your side even the software also function perfectly may be there is any internal problem with the hardware. So best option to check it out and repair if possible or replace it with the new one.
