Can I put a router between my Motorola box and the cellpipe?

Wondering if its ok to put a router between my STB and the cellpipe? I'm setting up a TV in a room that is served by one cat5e cable, and want to use it for both my computer connection and the TV connection. Even if it is possible, will I still be able to get HD channels with no trouble (ie: will router slow down traffic too much to be able to get stutter-free HD)?

I suppose I could try it with one of my other TV's, but thought I'd ask first in case someone else has already tried this (that, and because I'm lazy!! :D )

I believe this is possible.. you wold have to have cellpipe connected to the router in the wan port and then a network cable from the router to the stb... just make sure the router you have has Multicast Filter turned off in the firmware.

You do know that you can connect to the back of your STBs ethernet port and get an IP address from the cellpipe via the STB. No need for a router there -- I bet you can even put a switch there and multiplex the 1 ethernet port on the back of the STB.

I thought of that after I asked the question. I actually have the computer in my kitchen hooked into the back of the STB. That may be an easier option. Thanks.

Awesome -- this setup is really quite versatile even though some of the 'features' are not really features but just the way the technology works. Which it works well. I am sure if Bell found out about this daisy chaining they'd probably charge us more for this feature so don't make a big deal out of it ok?
