Drop in speed?

Postby arabinow » Mon Feb 01, 2010 7:41 am

Normally when i do a speedtest I get 27-28mbps

yesterday I was only able to get just over 20 with all the boxes off.. is this drop in speed across the board? or is it just me?

Make sure that the record (red) light is not on. Even though the boxes may be off, the PVR may be recording and thus taking up 5Mbps for an HD stream and 2 Mbps for an SD stream. When I did the test I saw a drop to about 18Mbps but the PVR was recording.

Recently same thing is happening to me too. It doesn't go any higher than 22 Mb/s with all turned off and no recording. It gets worse though - upload is never more than 1.90 Mb/s :/... I'll give it few more days and see if it improves or not..

I don't know if you all noticed but the Bell Entertainment site has changed, no more prices and supposedly the number redirects to the Bell TV and you cannot get BES ordered. I think they may be actually putting in place the final pieces in place on what they may be delivering. Maybe they were testing the max speed that they needed to deliver but the final Internet option on BES may be tiered pricing? It is on AT&T Uverse.

Could be tiered pricing. Wouldn't be a bad idea.

We've received similar reports from other customers, although not many. I sent your concerns directly to the IPTV group and they will update us on what they find.

Regards,

Dom

Hi Milly,

I hate to be the bearer of bad news.

Since this is a pre-launch service, set speeds weren't guaranteed and apparently some areas were hard capped at 20Mb directly at our Router, this would explain why you are now getting slowspeeds even though your synched at 30Mb.

Well there you have it. That explains the drop in speed for some folks on BES.
I guess at 20MB for the price is still not bad. Just sucks when all TV's are on :(

Yup mine is 20/5 now as well, although I did get 28 a few days ago... I'll test in a week and see what I get then. The way I think of it is it is doubtful you'll be doing much with BOTH the TV and Internet at the same time. Eventually IPTV will have some interactive content so it won't matter.

Perhaps they are hard capping it based on area and customer specs. I have the PVR Box and 3 additional STBs - 4 in total. Still seeing 28 down and 4 up (30/5 profile). Two of these TVs are HD... if I were to have 2 HD streams going and perhaps one SD I would have no allocation available for internet use if they adjusted my cap to 20 down. Then again shouldn't have three tvs on at the same time :-)

In west end of Mississauga.

Heys Guys DjLevel9 here
I found a few Gliches in the system where work On The Jarvis Street Line Thursday After Noon
the Problem is why your getting such drop in speeds.
Line Load In Balance
The test Board In Hamilton Ontario Is Now Aware of this
The FIBE 25 techs that go out the ones are trained for are Disspatched but some awhere not getting the Full Information right and report back the Lines are CLEAR
The Lanturn Sooftware they useing should not be used it was for the Old DSL system the New Web care software that was Implimented they should be useing that in Stead a lot still thinking the Old Way with the Old DSL Service.
and the ADSL for the Bus side where useing the same software Launtern has a Glich in and will give miss reading in the Lines there is a New Software Tool the test Board Now has to Pick up on thios when you call in to make a report to the Tech office as to check the Lines for InPropper Line Load Balance it's not your Equipment or computers its in the configourations in the lines leading from the cO to the Out Side Stinger Once the Service Tech goes they will need to check for this and correct that why the In Balance of the Up Load speeds I found it on my lines 4 days ago and haveing corrected on the Javis street line later on thursday after noon Hope sheds some new insite on whats been causeing the problem.
and if the tech comes back and says i did the testing get the Hamilton test Board Office on line if they check and see they will Disspatch the propper team to fix and correct this,The Hamilton test Board Office Will Only Issue a Service tech If a OPEN TICKET Is Created Front The Tech Support people if they see the Problem make sure it Esculated to the Test Board people In Hamilton if your In the area they assigned for the Toronto Area.

and Use the The CHICAGO IL Speed it gives the Correct speed up and down laod sppeds lol

I useing the Cell Pipe 7130 with the CISCO WRT 610 N and in my software I have found the Glisched in the like not your average user can't find this but I hope this Information Helped help and can get back to the bell team that can give the propper Information to the right people.
