Port Forwarding Issues?

Postby cskyrme » Sun Jan 24, 2010 7:19 pm

I've recently had the Bell Entertainment service installed, and am having issues getting port forwarding working with the provided Alactel-Lucent router (firmware 0.9.3.6).

Not trying anyting fancy - just to be able to VNC and FTP from the Internet to my PC.

Has anyone had success or issues attempting the same?

I would not get too comfortable using the Alcatel Lucent router as a working switch for your computers. It's not very reliable. Hook up a separate router via one of the cellpipes ports and configure that router to pass traffic for you. It will be interesting to hear your results so please report back.

I've also been trying to setup Remote Desktop through the Cellpipe gateway but I haven't had any luck.

One of the worst parts about trying to get it working on this router is that after making the smallest change to the configuration it has to restart and you have to wait 60+ seconds to see if the change even worked. If not, another 60+ seconds to change it back to normal :?

Have you tried hooking up everything behind a separate router - the DLINK DIR 655 works well although I haven't configured Remote Desktop. It's worth trying by connecting a router's WAN port to the cellpipe's LAN port and doing everything from the separate router. Turn off the wifi on the cellpipe and if you want put your router into the DMZ to connect to your machines from the Internet outside the firewall.
