Microsoft announces Mediaroom 2.0

And here's the future of the applications that may be possible soon on your TV. No video game console required. The unfortunate fact that a pizza commercial comes up right in the middle of your work out may be a bit demotivating though. :?

Another press release out of CES in Las Vegas talks about the fact that the IPTV stream will now be available form regular PCs running Windows 7.

I must admit that Microsoft is doing an end-run around whatever Apple has up its sleeves. The fact that this software is being embedded in regular set top boxes will most definitely alienate most Mac and iPhone users unless they have a way to access this information. It`s particularly interesting that this seems the only viable platform that STB manufacturers like Motorola are going with. If Rogers decides to choose an IPTV STB let`s hope there is some competition otherwise we will truly embed Windows in many more devices than just our PCs.

Media Centre integration

There's a reason why the bells and whistles were turned off BES -- it's old news and really not supported or relevant.

Remember that Mediaroom 1.0 was announced in 2007 or so -- it is taking 2-3 years to actually roll it out to consumers, so we should see Mediaroom 2.0 in what 2013 or so?
